Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Accountant, Strategic Initiatives for our insurance risk management industry client in Chicago, IL. Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and communication of company’s accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with US GAAP and other external regulations and requirements. You will also be expected to assist in leading projects strategic to the advancement of the Controllership (and overall Finance organization) and participate in the year-end audit.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in US GAAP accounting and research activities and underlying businesses with regard to emerging issues and complex transactions. This includes managing the global project with cross functional constituents, training employees, and working with IT to provide changes to the systems.
- Lead or assist in the preparation of whitepapers to establish support of underlying businesses related technical accounting conclusions and overall recommendations as it relates to technical accounting issues in compliance with GAAP and other external regulations and requirements.
- Review significant and/or non-standard arrangements, sales contract review and approval to ensure revenue recognition aligns with ASC 606 guidance and Company policies.
- Review significant transactions across the Company to ensure that the accounting is in accordance with US GAAP requirements.
- Review reports supporting external audits. Facilitate discussions external auditors on the accounting positions and conclusions.
- Assist in resolution of any significant accounting matters related to local statutory filings.
- Participate in cross functional strategic projects, including finance transformation, to optimize our systems, processes, and implementation of controls.
- Lead and participate in the execution of strategic projects to help optimize all elements of the finance function.
- Work with systems owners who drive the definition, planning, and implementation of the core reporting business systems in Finance.
- Assist in the delivery and management of the prioritized business outcome roadmap and governance of approved technology investments for the enhanced accounting and reporting capabilities.
- Assist with month end close process where support is required and help develop talent across the controllership team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA preferred).
- 3+ busy seasons with a Big 4 Accounting firm (Audit or Assurance)
- Subject matter expertise on the financial accounting rules and requirements under US GAAP.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex accounting patters/transactions, focus on the critical aspects of transaction and finalize accounting positions related to such transactions.
